EDITOR'S PREFACE

This is the first in Place of Herons' International Series of books, assisting in the creation, I hope, of a berth for Chicano literature in international writing. If there is a sensible future for mankind it is appropriate that a Chicano should write such a book as this: a nation within a nation, a people surviving in the context of another people, creating its own international image and perceptions. Such, I believe, will be the future in general: from Chicanos in the U.S. to Palestinians in the Middle East to the Ukraine in Russia, Wales in Britain, or, who, an Ecotopia or Texas is North America.
